IPT – Technological Research Institute of the State of São Paulo has advanced laboratory competencies and performs high technology analyses for the national and international markets.

The core mission of CMQ, the Center for Metrology in Chemistry is to provide technological solutions for product quality control and improvement. CMQ’s hallmark is the excellence of its chemical analysis and metrology services, responding to demands from different industrial and environmental areas, in line with internationally recognized quality standards.

CMQ’s main activities comprise:

• High technology analyses in organic and inorganic chemistry; chemical and physicochemical characterization of conventional fuels, biofuels, lubricants and additives;
• Development and certification of reference materials for the domestic and international markets (USA, UK, France, Germany, South Korea and South Africa);
• Inter-laboratory Comparison Programs and Proficiency Tests (organized according to ISO Guide 43) in a variety of matrices to meet the requirements of industry, health and environment, complementing its actions to ensure measurement quality.
• Preparation of technical reports for customs classification purposes, formulation of materials, conformity of products to specifications, development of methodologies, product qualification, tax refunds, etc.

CMQ, represented by the Fuel and Lubricant Laboratory – LCL; the Metrological References Laboratory – LRM, and the Chemical Analyses Laboratory – LAQ, is certified by the Carlos Alberto Vanzolini Foundation as a Quality Management System according to the NBR ISO 9001 Standard, and is accredited by INMETRO and recognized by REMESP – São Paulo State Metrological Network – in 48 test procedures, according to ABNT NBR ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Standards. IPT’s reference materials are prepared according to internationally accepted criteria, as prescribed by ABNT/ISO Guidelines 30, 31, 34 and 35. In 2009, LRM will participate as a pilot lab in the new accreditation procedure for Producers of Reference Materials, which will be offered by INMETRO.

CMQ has a team of experienced professionals who are up to date with the most advanced international practices, as well as a modern laboratory structure. Its work is efficient, comprehensive and competitive, generating technological returns and adding value to products. CMQ is qualified to perform tests, research and development, offer technological support, services, metrological products, training and support to manufacturers and exporters through the development of testing technology and the required verification of product specifications, with emphasis on the fuel and gas segment; and technological extension for micro- and small companies operating in the areas of industry, environment, health, education and public safety.
