Training in composites

Almaco and IPT work together to offer courses at the Lightweight Structures Laboratory

The Latin American Association for Composite Materials (Almaco, in the Portuguese acronym) and the Institute for Technological Research (IPT) agreed to work together to offer in 2018 several training practical courses in composites, to happen in the Lightweight Structures Laboratory, based in the Technology Park of São José dos Campos (SP).

“The partnership with IPT will allow us to offer trainings in a state-of-the-art lab environment”, says Gilmar Lima, CEO of Almaco.
"Partnership with IPT will provide conditions to offer training in an environment marked by state-of-the-art technology," said Almaco president - in the photo, the clean room of the Lightweight Structures Laboratory

Among the equipment available at the laboratory, it is worth mentioning automatic equipments for composite lamination, such as the automatic tape laying machine and the fiber placement machine, as well as a resin transfer molding machine.

According to Hugo Resende, responsible for the IPT laboratory, the trainings will help to boost more advanced composite applications at Brazilian companies, increasing the number of products which use this kind of material in Brazil. “The courses offered will be of medium complexity and focused in hands on sessions, allowing for a better understanding of advantages and challenges in the production of composite components, and the role of automatic machines and prepreg materials”.
