Characterization and evaluation of security papers and documents
Security papers are those incorporating identifiable security elements to discourage forgeries.
Security elements give papers specific characteristics and may be incorporated in the paper (watermarking and fibers visible only under ultraviolet light, for example) or come from processes external to the manufacture of the paper (micro-lettering or numismatic background, for instance) or the application of holographic films.
IPT has equipment to detect the presence of such security elements. It is an active participant of study committees on this subject, both the CB-29 committee coordinated by ABTCP – Brazilian Technical Society for Pulp and Paper – and the CB-27 committee coordinated by ABTG – Brazilian Technical Society for Graphic Arts. Additionally, the Institute offers support for the development of security documents.
